The Soli People of the Lusaka Provinc

The Soli comprise the vast majority of the Lusaka Province of Zambia.  This area is mostly rural.  The people make their living off of the land by farming.  We have found these peoples to be extremely responsive to the gospel and are seeing a great harvest of souls, and many new churches started.  The Soli people have their own heart language, but the common vernacular is Chinyanja.  This is also the only local vernacular that has a full translation of the Bible available for the people.  Although there are people who are now in the process of having the bible translated into Soli.
The Soli are a religious people.  They realize they live in a spiritual world and that there is a spiritual battle taking place.  The obstacle to Christian commitment is that they try to keep one foot in the world of good and the other in the world of evil.  The difficulty is getting them to give their all to Christ.  We have found that they demonstrate their true faith by their response to personal problems.  Do they trust Christ or do they turn to the witch doctor or their ancestors?  Experience shows that people have confronted the culture and trusted Christ when they forsake unbiblical traditions.  This means sometimes forsaking their culture, family, and community.
