KILPATRICKS’ PRAYER LETTER

February 2-8, 2012

PRAYER FOCUS FOR THE WEEK: The 70 In-Home Care Kits that our church and others have provided are complete. Yesterday (Tuesday) a group of senior adults from our church finished packing the 50 buckets that we bought supplies for and then put the Baptist Global Response (BGR) stickers on all 70 buckets. We are expecting 50 more buckets from the First Baptist Church of Katy, Texas, in a few days. These buckets will be taken to Richmond, Virginia, by a trucking firm that is donating the space on one of their trucks. From there Baptist Global Response will finish packing the container to bring it up to 800 buckets that will be shipped to Zambia. Organizations in Lusaka will pick up the clearing and transportation costs to get the buckets to the people who will benefit spiritually as well as physically. To those of you who contributed a bucket or buckets, we say thank you and ask you to pray again for the person who will receive your bucket. Pray also for the caregiver who will use the bucket as they take care of the sick person. Pray for the person who delivers the bucket that they will present a clear message of God's salvation and hope. Many people may be in heaven because they received a bucket and you prayed for them.

A prayer letter from Swaziland this week reported that in December an In-Home Care Kit (BGR bucket) was given to a son in the home where a local Baptist church meets. The son is ill with symptoms of HIV/AIDS and received one of the BGR kits at the family's request.  Despite his illness he attended the church service on New Year’s Day and prayed to receive Christ during the invitation. The missionaries in Swaziland ask us to pray that the distribution of these kits throughout Swaziland will continue ministering to families dealing with the affects of AIDS and other terminal illnesses.

FROM THE KILPATRICKS

February 1, 2012

Good news from Lusaka is that only Andy will need a temporary residence permit. This is a very expensive permit. It is much better to pay for one than to pay for two. Thank you for praying for this situation. Andy will be preaching during Seminary chapel tomorrow (Thursday). He will appreciate your prayers as he prepares for this sermon and the two he will be preaching at the International Baptist Church.

One of the things that we won’t miss about Africa: Andy wrote this morning that the new occupants of our old house at the Seminary  met an unwelcome guest in the back bedroom: a hooded 3-foot cobra. He is now resting in peace, headless. Just in case you ever need to know. Cobras are dangerous even if they are dead because you can get the poison by stepping on the head. Cobras have to be buried.

These next few months have the potential of being very important in making decisions to meet the financial needs of the Seminary. One of the key components in making the Seminary financially secure is the support of the school by individual Baptist churches and the cooperating churches of the Baptist Fellowship of Zambia. We have seen God do amazing things through Zambian Baptists as they listen and respond to God's direction in their lives. Please pray with us that God's will be very evident and that everyone be obedient to what he says.

Throughout our missionary career, which ended yesterday, we have always been involved in a local church. Missionaries have many different kinds of opportunities of ministry, and often missionaries are moving from church to church each Sunday. We have always thought that being a part of the local body of Christ, even if you aren't a "regular" member, is an important part of who we are as followers of Christ. For years our "home" church here in Texas has supported us as we represented them in Zambia. On our last Sunday in Lusaka at our "home" church, they commissioned us to represent them as missionaries in the United States. Part of that missionary calling will be through the ministries of our local church here. We are enjoying very much the mentoring program of Kid's Hope USA that our church participates in. Already we have seen how God is working to accomplish his purposes in the students that our mentors work with. We have no way of knowing all that God wants to do in the lives of these five children. Jesus loves children. We need to be praying for the children we know and for the children of the world.

Thank you for praying and being a blessing to us.
